AWS Global and AWS China are two different regions that provide similar but different services to their respective customers. Here are some of the key differences between AWS Global and AWS China:
The infrastructure in AWS China is operated by two separate Chinese companies, Sinnet and NWCD, as mandated by the Chinese government. This means that the physical data centers in AWS China are not directly connected to those in AWS Global. As a result, AWS China services cannot be accessed by customers who have an AWS Global account and vice versa.
AWS China must comply with Chinese regulations and laws regarding data protection and cybersecurity. This includes additional compliance certifications and requirements specific to China. Customers who use AWS China services must also comply with Chinese regulations, such as obtaining an Internet Content Provider (ICP) license before launching a website in China.
AWS China has its domain (www.amazonaws.cn).
Some AWS services are not available in AWS China due to regulatory and compliance reasons. For example, AWS China does not offer Amazon RDS for SQL Server, AWS Direct Connect, or Amazon WorkSpaces.
Here is a list of all available services.
Customers who want to use AWS China services must have a separate AWS China account, and they need to provide additional documentation, such as a valid Chinese business license issued by the Bureau of Industry and Commerce.
The support options for AWS China customers are different from those available to AWS Global customers. AWS China customers receive support from Chinese-speaking support engineers, and their support requests are handled through the AWS China Support Center.
AWS Global and AWS China have different security measures in place. AWS China has additional security measures due to the regulatory requirements in China. For example, customers in AWS China are required to go through additional identity verification steps, including providing their mobile number and Chinese ID card information. AWS China also has stricter data isolation requirements, meaning that data stored in China cannot be accessed by data centers located outside of China.
Pricing for AWS China services is different from AWS Global services. In addition, AWS China charges additional taxes and fees due to Chinese regulations.
AWS China has its own marketplace. AWS China’s marketplace is completely separate from the global marketplace. Some products are offered in both Global and China, but there are much fewer products available on the AWS China marketplace to purchase.
AWS endpoints and ARNs in China are different from AWS Global endpoints and ARNs.
In the AWS China region, there is no “root” user or credentials concept. All users are IAM users, including the user who created the account.
